Also having a used bulb allows me to fool around a bit and if the "new" bulb does not work, then maybe the problem is ballast. Re ballast, I think one can purchase a whole lens assembly including the ballast from a junk yard for less than the price of the OEM ballast, and get a D2S bulb as well.
